WHAT’S IN AND WHAT’S OUT FOR 2024

With a new year comes fresh home design trends.  From furniture shapes to paint colors and beyond, here is a sneak peek at what’s to come in 2024!

1 – CURVES

Curvy lines, whether used in sectional sofas, dining or cocktail tables, promote a soft, calm energy that makes for a welcoming space. The curves more closely mimic the outdoors as we crave more nature in our design aesthetic. Mother Nature does organic shapes best, so it makes sense we’d want to pull that inspiration into our homes.

2 – ART GALLERY INSPIRED SPACES

Most designers agree that ultra-contemporary spaces will a moment in 2024. Think bold color, clean backdrops, and unexpected accents, like funky cocktail tables and neon light fixtures that hold intense color.  People are becoming tired of playing it safe by sticking with neutrals and soft textures. If you don’t feel comfortable going all out as in the pictures above, you can still incorporate some of these elements like a more graphic stone on floors, provocative artwork and oversized statement chandeliers in spaces.  From my perspective, it’s great that people no longer want their home to look just like their neighbors’ but want their home to be one-of-a-kind. To do that, it’s critical to take risks.

03 – MIXED METALS

Mixed metals will be a hit in kitchens, bathrooms and beyond in 2024. When combining metals, think about using a mixed metal light fixture or plumbing fixture to harmoniously combine brass and black or bronze or brass and nickel.
It’s become easier to find the perfect balance of finishes by mixing and matching certain elements within the space.

04 – REDUCING WASTE

The industry is predicting an even greater push towards new zero-impact furniture in 2024.  We will see a return to simplicity by sourcing products from local artists, which coincides with consumers’ desire to reduce their carbon footprint.  People are becoming more and more aware of the value of existing structures and objects and the waste created by discarding them.  Every item that can be salvaged will help our environment.

05 – EARTHY COLOR PALETTES

Mother Nature’s color schemes are always in style, but never more so than now.  Earth tones will reign supreme in 2024.  A few crowd pleasing shades? Warm neutrals as well as soft greens will reign supreme.

06 – SPA-LIKE BATHROOMS

Creating a bathroom oasis will be a top priority for both new construction and renovations. Enhanced bathrooms that mimic the amenities of a spa are going to be on the rise, making a big splash in 2024. Homeowners are flocking to incorporate steam showers, infrared saunas, and cold plunges into their bathrooms as they become more affordable and accessible.  People are also exploring spa-like lighting as in backlit mirrors and integrated ceiling lighting.

07 – BRINGING THE OUTDOORS IN

Interest in biophilic design has been on the rise for nearly a decade now.  Formally defined, biophilic design is a concept used within the industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions. So if you are looking for a seamless outdoor to indoor transition, mimicking an exterior palette on the interior of a space is a timeless way to make a room feel at home in its surrounding environment.  There is a reason desert tones reign supreme in Palm Springs homes, or moody greens and blues are so prevalent in the Pacific Northwest.

You already know how you feel when you are connected to nature. Your productivity and energy level will increase, stress levels will decrease and sleep cycles will improve. You will feel calmer, happier and experience an increased sense of belonging. There are even some research that links biophilic design to higher self-esteem, creativity, and positive thinking.

In summary, if you prefer a more neutral palette, a vibrantly colorful space or a mixture of the two, there is a route for you to achieve your personal aesthetic.  Consulting with an interior designer is always a good idea before you get started and we are here to help!
